Five new employees at GeoSalmo

Five new employees have started working at GeoSalmo and join the company’s well-advanced preparation for the construction of its fish farm in Ölfus, near Þorlákshöfn. Construction is expected to begin in the first half of next year.

GeoSalmo aims to produce high-quality salmon, which is environmentally friendly, in a closed aquaculture system on land. The Norwegian Company Artec Aqua has been hired to design the facility and manage its construction.

The new employees will come to carry out a variety of projects related to the structure of the company. The fish farm and its related buildings are among the largest projects that a private party has undertaken in Iceland.

Eva Dögg Jóhannesdóttir started work early this fall and is the company's quality and environment manager. She is a marine biologist but has also studied aquaculture. She has extensive experience in research related to the environmental impact of fish farming, and most recently worked on licensing issues and research at Arctic Fish.

Eyþór Helgason also started working in early autumn as the company's technical manager. He is a technologist and engineer and has extensive experience in the design and operation of complex systems. He will manage projects related to hardware and the construction of structures.

Karl Kári Másson recently started working as Geo Salmo's CFO. He is a business analyst with an MBA degree and has, among other things, worked in various positions at Landsbankinn and Kvika, most recently in Kvika's corporate consulting for 5 years.

Garðar Sigþórsson has also recently started work as the head of smolt. He is a fish farming expert and has over 20 years of experience in fish farming on land, at Stofnfiskur, Arnarlax and Laxar Fiskeldi. He will be responsible for all the company's fish farming, i.e. the construction of the company's hatchery in Landsveit and the construction of a new hatchery in Ölfus.

Jóhannes Gíslason will start working in the coming months, but he has been appointed head of sales and marketing at Geo Salmo. Jóhannes is a business analyst with strong experience in the sale of fish products, including the last 6 years at Arnarlax. He will lead the company’s sales and marketing department.

Jens Þórðarson, CEO of GeoSalmo: "Geo Salmo aims for extensive growth in the coming years and it is extremely important for the company to enjoy the teamwork of staff with diverse experience in the company's subjects. It is very gratifying to see that the company is attractive to experienced staff and the team is now well equipped to tackle the tasks ahead."
